  • The 2021 Hyundai Tucson has been released and has a starting price of $24,885.
  • The 2021 Tucson can go from 0-60 in 8.8 seconds making it one of the fastest SUVs on the market.
  • You can expect to get 24-28 mpg depending on if your are driving in the city or highway.

Talk about a lot in one package! The time has finally come for Hyundai’s 2021 Tucson to be a part of your garage. While it may not offer as many premium options and materials as its siblings, the Tucson offers a variety of stylish interior and a smooth ride. Buyers get to choose between a 164-hp 2.0-liter or a 181-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with either front- or all-wheel drive. Coming in at a starting price of $24,885, Hyundai’s Tucson is a great all-around compact SUV for those who need the basics with a modern touch.

Engine & Performance

This year’s model is offered in two different engine types. First, a 164-hp 2.0-liter spitting out an average of 150lbs of torque. Second, a 181 hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine outputting 181lbs. Both have been tested to move the Tucson at a standstill form 0-60mph in 8.8 seconds. Making for a pretty strong number for the value of the car.

While the handling isn’t the best, it still provides a sharp, responsive ride when turning corners in a city setting. The phenomenal suspension pairs with high-performance brake calipers and a weighted steering wheel to provide a “sporty” experience that soaks up all the harsh environmental factors, which is great for daily driver use if you happen to have a ton of potholes or beat-up roads near your area.

Fuel Economy & Pricing

Surprisingly for a crossover SUV, the fuel economy for Hyundai’s new Tucson is nothing to rave about. The EPA has rated the Tucson to be capable of 23mpg in the city and 28 on the highway, although, we find that it offers a modest 26 in the city and 29 (average) on the highway during our tests. Overall, they are not crazy impressive numbers, but it still beats many of their competitors while offering a solid starting price point.

Driving Safety Updates

As one of the best in its class for safety, this Tucson has some of the best compact SUV ratings. Hyundai’s compact crossover earns accolades from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Admiring its strong showing in crash tests. The Tucson earns five stars for both front and side crash testing. Also receieving a 4.5 for roll tests, beating out last year’s numbers by just a hair.

Standard driving assistance and safety features included with this year is a long list. Including: automated emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and driver attention warning. If you want even more for an optimally safe ride, blind-spot warnings, pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams are all available as well.

Interior Technology & Entertainment

Inside the cabin of this compact SUV is a simple infotainment system. It comes with Apple Carplay & Android Auto compatibility that will display media information and a list of other driving stats. The Limited and Ultimate trim levels feature an 8.0-inch touchscreen with an in-dash navigation heads-up display.

With a beige and black color interior color theme and simple yet intuitive design, the Tucson manages to provide a luxurious and high-end experience. It perfectly matches the exterior styling choices. According to Hyundai, the fabric seating that comes standard with most of the trim levels resists staining, repel odors, and reduce static thanks to its inter-woven stitching design. The ultimate and limited trims also offer leather stitching and seats as a standard for those who are not a big fan of interior cloth materials.

Our Final Thought

Overall, Hyundai’s 2021 Tucson is proving to be a worthy competitor in the compact SUV market. With a low price point and a big list of safety/entertainment features, the Tucson is one of the smoothest SUVs ever.
