2026 Hyundai Kona
A Small SUV Ready For Big Adventures
The Hyundai Kona returns as a more refined and thoughtfully updated subcompact SUV, blending style, functionality, and driver appeal. For 2026, Hyundai has simplified the Hyundai Kona lineup. Several previous trims, including the SEL Convenience, N Line S, and N Line, have been discontinued. However, two new trims, the SEL Sport and SEL Premium, have been added to better cover the feature spectrum.
A Hyundai Kona Design That Stands Out
The Hyundai Kona adopts a slightly sharper, more athletic appearance, with styling cues that vary by trim. The SEL Sport features gloss-black exterior mirrors and a matching rear spoiler. The SEL Premium pairs gloss-black mirror caps with a body-color spoiler for a refined look. Wheel sizes have also increased on higher trims. For example, the SEL Sport rolling on 18-inch black-painted alloy wheels and the Premium upgraded to 19-inch alloy wheels in a black-and-silver finish. LED lighting continues as standard equipment, including projector beam LED low and high beams with automatic high-beam control. To improve efficiency, active grille shutters have been added to the front end. The Hyundai Kona color options have been refreshed and expanded. Now available are bold choices such as Neoteric Yellow and Soultronic Orange Pearl alongside timeless shades like Abyss Black Pearl and Ultimate Red Metallic.
Hyundai Kona Interior Features That Bring It
The cabin of the Hyundai Kona has been refined with improved materials and a more cohesive layout, particularly in the new SEL Sport and SEL Premium trims. SE and SEL Sport models feature cloth seats, while SEL Premium and Limited trims upgrade to H-Tex leatherette, with heated front seats standard and ventilated seats added in the Limited. Higher trims also include a larger power-adjustable driver’s seat with enhanced lumbar support, along with soft-touch surfaces on doors and side panels. Ambient LED lighting is available on select trims, enhancing the interior’s upscale feel. Dashboard technology varies by trim: SE and SEL Sport retain a 4.2-inch digital gauge cluster, while SEL Premium and Limited models feature a 12.3-inch digital display paired with the 12.3-inch center touchscreen, creating a more integrated and modern cockpit. Top trims further enhance convenience with a power tilt-and-slide sunroof with sunshade and a hands-free smart liftgate.
A Hyundai Kona That’s As Smart As It Is Safe
Hyundai has upgraded the Kona with a more extensive suite of standard safety and technology features. Across all trims, drivers now get Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, along with enhanced automatic emergency braking that can detect intersections and oncoming vehicles. The full safety package also includes lane-keeping and lane-following assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention warnings, safe exit warnings, high-beam assist, rear occupant alert, and pedestrian and cyclist detection. On the tech side, every Hyundai Kona now comes equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SEL Premium and Limited trims pair this with a matching 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while lower trims retain a smaller gauge display. Other updates for the Hyundai Kona include wireless device charging, a larger center console tray in select trims, optional Bose premium audio on top models, and enhanced ambient lighting.
Confident Driving In All Conditions
Practicality and performance go hand in hand in the Hyundai Kona. Behind the second row, the SUV offers around 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space, which expands to nearly 63.7 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded. Under the hood, Hyundai Kona buyers can choose between two gas engines: a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder delivering roughly 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The other option, a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing about 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque for a more spirited drive. Transmission choice depends on the engine, with the base 2.0-liter paired to a continuously variable IVT and the turbo model using an eight-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is available for both engines, adding versatility in slick or uneven conditions. Fuel efficiency reflects the setup: the 2.0-liter front-wheel-drive Kona achieves over 30 mpg combined, while the turbo or AWD versions trade some efficiency for stronger acceleration, with the turbo AWD reaching 0-60 mph in roughly 7.7 seconds.
