front view of the 2021 Hyundai Tucson
  • The 2021 Hyundai Tucson has been released and has a starting price of $24,885.
  • The 2021 Tucson can go from 0-60 in 8.8 seconds making it one of the fastest SUVs on the market.
  • You can expect to get 24-28 mpg depending on if your are driving in the city or highway.

Talk about a lot in one package! The time has finally come for Hyundai’s 2021 Tucson to be a part of your garage. While it may not offer as many premium options and materials as its siblings, the Tucson offers a variety of stylish interior and a smooth ride. Buyers get to choose between a 164-hp 2.0-liter or a 181-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with either front- or all-wheel drive. Coming in at a starting price of $24,885, Hyundai’s Tucson is a great all-around compact SUV for those who need the basics with a modern touch.

Engine & Performance

This year’s model is offered in two different engine types. First, a 164-hp 2.0-liter spitting out an average of 150lbs of torque. Second, a 181 hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine outputting 181lbs. Both have been tested to move the Tucson at a standstill form 0-60mph in 8.8 seconds. Making for a pretty strong number for the value of the car.

While the handling isn’t the best, it still provides a sharp, responsive ride when turning corners in a city setting. The phenomenal suspension pairs with high-performance brake calipers and a weighted steering wheel to provide a “sporty” experience that soaks up all the harsh environmental factors, which is great for daily driver use if you happen to have a ton of potholes or beat-up roads near your area.

Fuel Economy & Pricing

Surprisingly for a crossover SUV, the fuel economy for Hyundai’s new Tucson is nothing to rave about. The EPA has rated the Tucson to be capable of 23mpg in the city and 28 on the highway, although, we find that it offers a modest 26 in the city and 29 (average) on the highway during our tests. Overall, they are not crazy impressive numbers, but it still beats many of their competitors while offering a solid starting price point.

For information on the models available and their pricing, a helpful graph is included below:

a graph of the price points for the 2021 Hyundai Tucson

Driving Safety Updates

As one of the best in its class for safety, this Tucson has some of the best compact SUV ratings. Hyundai’s compact crossover earns accolades from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Admiring its strong showing in crash tests. The Tucson earns five stars for both front and side crash testing. Also receiving a 4.5 for roll tests, beating out last year’s numbers by just a hair.

Standard driving assistance and safety features included with this year is a long list. Including: automated emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and driver attention warning. If you want even more for an optimally safe ride, blind-spot warnings, pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams are all available as well.

Interior Technology & Entertainment

Inside the cabin of this compact SUV is a simple infotainment system. It comes with Apple Carplay & Android Auto compatibility that will display media information and a list of other driving stats. The Limited and Ultimate trim levels feature an 8.0-inch touchscreen with an in-dash navigation heads-up display.

With a beige and black color interior color theme and simple yet intuitive design, the Tucson manages to provide a luxurious and high-end experience. It perfectly matches the exterior styling choices. According to Hyundai, the fabric seating that comes standard with most of the trim levels resists staining, repel odors, and reduce static thanks to its inter-woven stitching design. The ultimate and limited trims also offer leather stitching and seats as a standard for those who are not a big fan of interior cloth materials.

Our Final Thought

Overall, Hyundai’s 2021 Tucson is proving to be a worthy competitor in the compact SUV market. With a low price point and a big list of safety/entertainment features, the Tucson is one of the smoothest SUVs ever.

  • The 2021 Hyundai Sonata is looking to enter the luxury class market.
  • Many comfort features and exterior sleek styling upgrades have been made to the 2021 Hyundai Sonata.
  • The base price of the 2021 Hyundai Sonata is $23,000.

A prominent grille with sleek, sharp curvature makes the front of the car truly stand out on the road and the upscale interior features, with seating space, offer more than what many family sedans include nowadays. This gives you the option of hitting the roads for a much-needed solo speed drive or those long family road trips throughout the beautiful state of Oklahoma.

Sleek Styling

Style has always been a one of the focuses for Hyundai and their family sedan lineup. The design used for this model truly stands out thanks to its slim, finned tail lights and low-cut roof structure. This gives the Sonata a sporty look with plenty of room. Not too much, though, under the car for sharp and responsive turning. The 16-inch alloy wheels and bright LED headlights have also been integrated in this year’s model. This makes driving during difficult weather conditions as safe as making a trip to the local grocery store.

Looking inside, sleek HVAC controls, premium cloth upholstery, and a spacious dashboard, the design of the Sonata will leave you with a “luxury feeling” that never goes away, regardless of how much you drive. The two front seats are fully power adjustable with up to 4-6 positioning options. The back seats have a ton of legroom. The seats are able to be put down, utilizing the enormous space of the trunk .

Overall, with around a 16 foot length and 3,200 pound weight, the 2021 Hyundai Sonata is a champion offering luxury sedan features without compromising on a sporty style.

Road-Worthy Technology

Technology is one of the areas where the Sonata truly shines. An 18-inch touchscreen system with Apple Carplay & Android Auto, USB ports, and wireless bluetooth connectivity have been upgraded for a better entertainment experience. With responsive, simple-to-use controls and useful wireless media playback, listening to music or changing the temperature will never require you to take your eyes off the road again.

The higher models also provide upgraded features for those who want even better and more convenient technology like remote keyless entry, suede leather upholstery, 12-speaker premium surround sound, 10.25 inch LED infotainment screen, and heated/cooled front seats.

Luxury Comfort

The Hyundai Sonata isn’t called a “family sedan” for no reason. Hyundai offers over 16 cubic feet of trunk space. This is plenty of space for you to stuff it full of the family’s luggage or two weeks of groceries. Space for five adults, it reserves most of its space for the driver/passenger seating. Offering over 46.1 inches of front leg room. As mentioned, the SEL models are capable of providing power driver adjustable seats, heating/cooling integration, and much more. The back carries around 34 inches of legroom space.

Superior Safety

The NHTSA awards the 2021 Hyundai Sonata five stars overall and the IIHS recently called it a Top Safety Pick. But the Sonata offers more than just good reviews. Hyundai equipped the trim models for this year’s sedan with plenty of safety features. Features that not only rival worthy competitors, but offers a value for the dollar that is hard to match. Standard features for all of the models include automatic emergency braking, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, hands-free bluetooth system, high-beam assist, and daytime running LEDs.

For those who decide to go with the more premium trim options, safety features like blind-spot monitors, surround-view camera system, parking assistance, safe exit views, and a heads-up-display showing detailed & live vehicle statistics are also available.

Powerful Performance

While it may not have been the main focus of innovation for this model, the 2021 Hyundai Sonata still delivers plenty of under-the-hood performance to go with all these safety and luxury features. The base models come with a 2.5-liter inline-4 that spits out around 191 horsepower with 181 pounds of torque. An available 180-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder is also out now, offering a solution for those who have a racing itch on the streets. While driving, the Hyundai feels smooth and quick for its size, usually with no road sounds or bumps felt during a trip. Thanks to its low to the ground design, alloy wheels, and sport tuned transmission shifting, the Sonata is the perfect midsize sedan offering a true “sport car” experience.

Fuel Economy

Currently, Hyundai only sells the 2021 Sonata models in two versions, gas, and hybrid. The SE Sonata trim with an inline-4 earned an EPA rating of 28 mpg city, 38 on the highway. As well as a 32 overall combined. Having to compensate for the higher performance engine and quicker acceleration shifting, the turbo-4 upgrade checked in at 27/37/30 mpg. According to Hyundai, an optional solar panel roof is also available. This is only for the hybrid models and will provide up to an additional 700 miles of driving distance!

If you’re on a budget, but enjoy luxury, then the 2021 Hyundai Sonata is for you. It carries a competitive base price point at $23,000. It offers plenty of safety, performance, and luxury features to go around. And with all of the new innovations coming out in modern cars, the Sonata has competitive selling points. While some other midsize sedans may offer models with more space or speed, the Sonata is easily one of the top 2021 cars to purchase.

When you first think of a midsize vehicle, sporty and hightech typically do not come to mind. But as body styles have progressed over the years, midsize vehicles are getting bold new looks that are getting noticed. While the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord have dominated the midsize sedan segment, the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is here to see if it can stand up to its competitor, the 2020 Honda Accord, and take it’s top ranking spot.

Comparison

The examples we’ll be comparing are the fully loaded 2020 Hyundai Sonata Limited 1.6T and the 2020 Honda Accord Touring 2.0 Touring. We’ll be looking at their overall pricing, handling and performance, exteriors, and interiors.

Price

Hyundai is known for its value and their fully loaded limited model starts its MSRP at $33,000; while the Honda Accord shows their fully loaded touring trim starting its MSRP at 36,250. That’s almost a $3,000 difference! Lets take a look at the engine to see why we have this price gap.

Handling/Performance

Both of these vehicles are working with an updated engine however, the Sonata has a 1.6L Turbo 4 cylinder and a 180 HP and 195 lb ft of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard across all Sonatas and provides fast and smooth shifting. Currently the Sonata only offers front wheel drive and does not carry an option for 4 wheel drive. While the Sonata does have a spunky feel and quick launch for acceleration, it is not designed for extra performance, but what it lacks in extra performance, it gains in fuel economy; It has a City/Highway/Combined MPG of 27/36/31. The less powerful engine comes out ahead by a substantial margin compared to the Accord.

The Accord has a torque rich 2.0L 4 cylinder and with 252 HP and 273 lb ft torque, that definitely gives you the get up and go to push you back in your seat. The Accord does stand out with its 10-speed automatic transmission, which no other current competitor has. The Accord has the best steering wheel setup in its class and includes adaptive dampers that are both comfortable and sporty and provides extremely smooth riding. While the Accord has the more power with the larger engine, it cannot compare to the Sonata with its fuel economy. The Accords City/Highway/Combined MPG shows 22/32/26.

Both have a button down athletic feel that is fun to drive. They both handle very well and have a very agile feel to them. While the Accord has the larger engine and 10-speed transmission, In practice, the average person would not be able to tell much of a difference between the transmissions. With performance, we want to accompany it with good looks and sleek design. Let’s take a look at their exterior and see how they compare.

Exterior

For years the midsize auto segment had been dull, and lacked appeal in design and looks, but the Sonata kicked off the style revolution back in 2011 and this year brings even more appeal. The Sonata offers a bold black triangular grill, no matter what paint color you choose. The LED headlights have a unique feature where chrome accents will light up as daytime running lights, however, the Sonata does not come with fog lights. A built in spoiler gives the Sonata a sport look and comes with 18” alloy wheels. Mirrors are heated with blind spot monitoring and their advanced safety suit which includes, auto emergency braking, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and automatic high beam headlights, is thrown in as standard equipment, even on the lowest trim levels.

The Accord has a large grill with accented chrome above it and features LED fog lights which the 2020 Hyundai Sonata does not include. The 2020 Honda Accord shows it’s sporty side with dual exhaust outlets and 19” alloy wheels. It also provides heated mirrors with blind spot monitoring and also includes the same safety features as the Sonata on it’s lower trim.

While design might come down to being a personal preference, what sets these two apart is the outstanding warranty that Hyundai offers. Their basic warranty is 5yr/60k miles with a powertrain warranty of 10yr/100k miles. Honda offers a basic warranty at 3yr/36k miles and their powertrain warranty is 5yr/60k miles. As you can see, Honda’s Powertrain warranty is Hyunda’s basic Warranty. The Sonata is clearly the winner and rightfully so offers America’s Best Warrant.

Interior

While both the 2020 Hyundai Sonata and the 2020 Honda Accord have a smart keyless entry, the Sonata takes it a bit further and offers a digital key system as well. The digital key system is able to lock and unlock via your phone through Bluetooth and is able to offer parking assist in a very unique way. Similar luxury vehicles, like the BMW 7 series, you can exit your vehicle and use the key fob to have the car back up into a parking spot and pull out when coming back to the vehicle.

Taking a closer look inside, both the Sonata and Accord feature premium black leather color schemes as well as soft to touch dashboard, leather wrapped steering wheel, and a spacious interior storage in the center console including wireless phone charging pads that cover the bottom of the front bins. The Accord is able to provide a touch of class as it has a realistic dark faux wood trim and a padded leatherette covering the center console.

Both vehicles also have a head up display that projects the MPH on the windshield, push button shifters that are not commonly offered in its class, standard dual zone automatic climate control as well as rear seat vents. The front seats also offer heating, ventilation, memory seats as well as 8-way seating adjustment in the Sonata and 12-way seating adjustment in the Accord. They both include a moonroof, but only Sonata gives you a panoramic moonroof to enjoy more of the outdoor scenery.

Standout Interior Features

Some features that stand out in the 2020 Hyundai Sonata are the digital gage cluster with vivid graphics and is fully reconfigurable, and a large and vivid 360 degree backup camera and blind-spot camera monitoring system that displays the corresponding images on each side. This is similar to the lanewatch system that Honda used to offer, but no longer offered on the accord and is not a 360 degree backup camera.

The steering wheel in the Sonata, while leather wrapped, is also heated and the back rear seat vents also contain a smart charging USB port. The infotainment system has a 10.25” display, navigation and includes Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The Sonata also includes a premium Bose audio with 12 speakers to really enhance your music experience, while the Accord only has premium audio (not Bose) with 10 speakers. The Accord’s infotainment system also includes navigation, Apple Carplay and Android Audio, but only has an 8” display.

Space

As far as space goes, the Accord is able to provide just a bit more rear headroom, legroom and trunk space. The Sonata’s measurements are:

    -leg – 34.8in

    -head – 38.4in

-trunk space – 16.0 cubic feet

While the Accord’s measurements are:

    -leg – 40.4in

    -head – 40.2

-trunk space – 16.7 cubic feet

The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Is The Best

Overall, the vehicles are pretty comparable to each other, and it might just come down to personal preference. But as far as value goes and getting the most for you money, the Hyundai is the better choice. With the upfront savings as well as the savings on gas mileage and it’s outstanding warranty, The Hyundai Sonata is the Midsize vehicle that will give you the sleek style and design, sporty handling, top safety features and all the bells and whistles to give it that extra flair.
